Tell me in a few words, who you are. How would you describe

yourself in a short story.

Local Baton Rouge artist D’michael Youngblood, 29 years old

also known as Phat Baby. He’s been dedicated to the rap industry

for about 8+ years. Phat Baby is a versatile, self motivated artist

who is hungry for a major shift in his career. After being

incarcerated for 3 years, he came home ready to drive himself into

notoriety dropping heat every other week. His latest hit “Proper

Play” recently took off followed by a dance that went viral on

Instagram & Tik Tok. Phat Baby has been well received by The

City of Baton Rouge and surrounding areas as followers and fans

continue to support the wave! Although he started from the bottom

like any other artist, it’s clear to see that Phat Baby’s career is only

going up from here!


 What’s your stage name and how did you come up with it?

Phat Baby is my stage name, I gained that name from Prison.


 What got you into music?

I’ve’ always loved music since I was a kid. I played around with

it at first l, then I got serious as it became a heart felt passion.


 What was life like growing up?

Dealing with poverty, life with my family had its ups and downs.


 Who is your inspiration? What keeps you going to get up daily

and put effort into your music career?

I inspire myself, there no one I look up to. As an independent artist

it’s a must that I have that get up and go with myself if I wanna be

successful.


 What is your creative process like? What is the meaning behind

your current single?

Being creative comes from my natural instinct. Nothing is ever

forced, I like organic music. My current single “Proper Play” is

pretty much self explanatory lol It’s a must that you get you, the

right way when it comes to anything you’re involved in.


 What is the name of the current single/ep/album that you

are pushing? Do you prefer people to buy it or stream? And

why?

I’m currently pushing my single “Proper Play”.

I prefer people to stream it because with all of the platforms I

advertise myself on makes it easier and cost efficient for my

fans to support.


 With the industry changing so much, would you stay indie or

sign to a label? Why and why not?

Independent so I can get 100% of my earnings and own my

Masters/publishing and do what I want when I want.


 Do you feel like the music industry has went down since the

pandemic? Why or why not? Where you affected by the

pandemic with music or everyday life?

No if anything it helped it especially the social media platforms I

was incarcerated during pandemic.


 If you were give a chance to sit down and have a business

dinner with a celebrity who would it be and why?

Jay z or 50 cent because they can give me game on every aspect

of the music industry plus the business side outside of it.


 How do you balance everyday life tied into your music career?

I’m still tryna find balance in between life and my career.


 Tell me about your most memorable moment in your career?

My most memorable moment was seeing my video hit 500k.


 What style of music do you prefer to make? Would you

ever try a different lane?

I’m down with trying whatever long as it’s a hit.


 Do you have a celebrity crush?

No.


 Is there anyone who you would collab with right now?

I’ll work with whoever long as it make sense.


 Who is the producer and engineer behind your music?

I engineer myself.


 What are you currently working on and what is next for you?

Step child 1.5 which will be my 4th project this year.


 When it comes to fashion, whats your dressing style ?

I’m picky with my choice of clothes can’t say what brands I like

different types of clothing.


 What is your creative process like and who inspired you to

make music?

Pretty much going with the flow and leverage my bright ideas

when that time come around. I inspire myself. Once I became

serious with my music I surprised myself and kept going.


 If you could open up for one celebrity who would it be and why?

Lil Baby/Lil Durk/Money Bagg Yo

 What would you be doing right now if it wasn’t for your music

career?

I’ll prolly be in the streets or driving 18 wheelers.


 What is one message you would give to your fans?

Never give up on yourself stay down , dedicated , consistent,

positive, patient, and prayed up. Your moment will come if you that

serious and if you good at what you’re perusing.
