Va Artist " Hippie Coidene " Talks Her New Single " Rainbows "

Hippie Coidene recently performed at the 94.7 The Link showcase in Williamsburg, Virginia. She brought the vibes all the way out with her new music. We had to sit down with her and ask a couple of questions to learn more about what she's really working on and her lifestyle.

Tell me in a few words, who you are. How would you describe

yourself in a short story.

My name is Collene Christina Raphael Johnson. I just turned 25 June

8th, and I was born in Brooklyn, New York 1997. I currently reside in

Virginia Beach, Virginia. To put into simple terms I’m notorious for

catching attention for just simply being myself. I believe that I carry a

comforting, positive energy that anyone can feel there best around. I

encourage growth in all aspects of life, especially through music and

sports. I been active in music and sports since I was four years old, and

my passion for them is unwavering. However, I feel that I can express

and inspire a generation more with my music on a relatable level.

● What’s your stage name and how did you come up with it?

Hippie Coidene is my stage name. It originates from my high school era,

simply put it is a nickname one of my homeboys insisted on calling me

hence my first name. Also, not to long after Future Hendricks dropped

the song coidene crazy, and it solidified the name for me since 2015.

Hippie is a vibe/energy that I carry in myself as an enlightenment to the

world, a new born entity, also inspired by Trippie Redd when I officially

solidified an artist name.

● What got you into music?

I have always been in love with music and the artistry it possesses. My

mother says the piano was my favorite toy to play with before I was

even 4 years old.

● What was life like growing up?

Growing up I was very in tune with what was going on around me and I

had to learn and develop new traits my single mother wasn’t.

emotionally capable enough to pass down. I feel as if I raised my self on

a different spectrum. Iv always been smart though, but felt that it wasn’t

enough because I believe the universe is built on connecting with others.

● Who is your inspiration? What keeps you going to get up daily and

put effort into your music career?

From a young age Alicia keys has been and still is a big inspiration. My

drive to get it and seeing my fav recent artist like Coi Leray and Trippie

Red grind keeps me going.

● What is your creative process like? What is the meaning behind

your current single?

The creative process I go through differs every time but also very similar.

I have quite a few artist that I reference to while creating, plus knowing

my own voice. I like to vibe with the beat and really get in tune with how

it makes me feel, and how I would like others to be able to relate and

coincide with the creative process that I have put out. My current single

is called rainbows.

● What is the name of the current single/ep/album that you are

pushing? Do you prefer people to buy it or stream? And why?

Rainbows. I prefer the streams . I want people to fully indulge

themselves and enjoy my music, the dividends will come.

● With the industry changing so much, would you stay indie or sign to

a label? Why and why not?

I would love to stay indie, but if the proper circumstances align I will

definitely work a label deal.

● Do you feel like the music industry has went down since the

pandemic? Why or why not? Where you affected by the pandemic

with music or everyday life?

In my opinion I feel like it has grown media wise because we have been

stuck in the house, and it was our only means of communication.

I used the pandemic to my advantage I may not have gone viral, but I

learned and still learning the algorithm or being consistent on social

media. I feel like as if I had the content to go along with my music I

would be in a different place than I am now, time and place for

everything though because growth is important.

● If you were give a chance to sit down and have a business dinner

with a celebrity who would it be and why?

If I had a chance it would most definitely be Jhene Aiko. Even though it’s

a very hard decision between Alicia keys and her. I choose Jhene Aiko

because I spiritually resonate with her and her songs, though I love and

grew up with Alicia keys, Jhene really spoke to me and I would love to

hear her mindset involving the industry, and how she carries herself as

an artist that is adored by so many.

● How do you balance everyday life tied into your music career?

I take every opportunity I have to be consistent on social media. Either

it’s networking or promoting myself I’m on it. I’m off at 5 everyday with

weekends free, so I definitely be on the move to get to the studio or a

show anytime after 5.

● Tell me about your most memorable moment in your career?

I went to Atlanta to perform for rhyme records and ugly money summer

2021. The experience was definitely a learning experience, but ever

since I have been reached out to consistently. I also made some

networking connections.

● What style of music do you prefer to make? Would you ever try a

different lane?

To be honest I’m pretty versatile but my pocket

is trap soul. I base my main sound on Jhene Aiko, Alicia keys, and

Lauryn hill.

● Do you have a celebrity crush?

Jhene Aiko

● Is there anyone who you would collab with right now?

Yes. Jhene Aiko, khelani, and Roddy Rich.

● Who is the producer and engineer behind your music?

@itstajuan @iamderby @therealpic100

● What are you currently working on and what is next for you?

I’m currently working on my singles and building and ep. My next move

is to work with Dj Ro and 94.7 The Link.

● When it comes to fashion, whats your dressing style ?

My dressing style is gender neutral. Referencing to unisex or

androgynous fashion. I wear what makes me feel comfortable and sexy

all at once, and it also depends on the weather. My inspo: Teyana Taylor

Khelani and Alicia keys

● What is your creative process like and who inspired you to make

music?

I love to vibe out to a beat, start free styling abit, and get a real feel for

the music being created.

● If you could open up for one celebrity who would it be and why?

Khelani, because with the versatility I have I feel like I can go anywhere

on the spectrum and open for her.

She herself is also versatile in many aspects and the vibe would be saucy.

● Any funny stories or an embarrassing moments you want to share

with our readers?

Sometimes I have my Dotish moments( Trinidad terminology for acting

dumb). Now I know better not to be to drunk trying to perform because

it’s definitely embarrassing not being able to get your words out

properly, sound drunk, or running out of breath. Not my best moments,

but I have learned and that’s all we can do as human beings

● What would you be doing right now if it wasn’t for your music

career?

Working and going to school “the norm”.

● What is one message you would give to your fans?

Always look out for yourself because nobody gotchu better than you.

Love is pure love is kind but the best love is truly within. Stay at peace,

spread positivity and grow youngin. Ya mental, spiritual and physical

Devine is what’s important. Love.
