Here at 94.7 The Link we are always spotlighting hot talent! Recently we were able to catch up and get an exclusive with hot upcoming artist Pt+. Check the exclusive below!
● Tell me in a few words, who you are. How would you describe yourself in a short story. Include where you are from and the state you currently live in
❖ Jason Antis, Stage name Pt+ (Platinum Plus). I would describe myself as genuine, stand-up, real, compassionate, and an overachiever. I spent the majority of my Life in Southern California, but I currently reside in the Charlotte area.
● What’s your stage name and how did you come up with it?
❖ Pt+ is my name. I was “Antionez” for sooo long. I worked with Platinum solution, and every time I performed on stage in my younger days the crowd was always wanting to hear more.. Hence the name Platinum Plus.
● What got you into music?
❖ I’ll say what got me into “rap” music. 80’s music was timeless… we listened to 80’s pop as kids. My Brother and I used to go to K-Mart and look through the cassette tapes. There’s one particular tape that had a song that caught my eye at that time.. 2-Live Crew “Dirty Nursery Rhymes”. That was an absolute must! After listening to that, I went back for Too Short. Then history set in…
● What was life like growing up?
❖ My Dad changed jobs, cities, and states alot trying to make a decent living. I felt like I was always the underdog; starting over everywhere. My influential years were spent in Michigan. I’m a huge Lions, Tigers, and Pistons fan. We moved to California in 1989 to finish out 6th grade. I went to High School in Orange County before moving to Long Beach CA.
● Who is your inspiration? What keeps you going to get up daily and put effort into your music career?
❖ My Parents always provided that quiet inspiration through their actions and commitment to My Brother and I’s growth as kids. My Parents never quit and never succumbed to the BS. As a young adult my Kids inspired me and kept me going. Life was extremely difficult, especially balancing so many different uniques. I gave up on music due to the amount of energy needed to focus on my Family. My Sons have helped bring my music bone back to life.
● What is your creative process like? What is the meaning behind
your current single?
❖ When I hear a beat that I’m “feeling”, I start singing along whatever comes to mind. That usually becomes my chorus. I write my verses to go along with the chorus. My current single “Bury Me Smiling” depicts the dark and difficult side of my life. When one is in much pain, and can hide it behind a smile, there’s definite strength there. There are so many people that have no idea about my pain and hurt and I’m ok with that. I want folks to remember the personality and the smile I had.
● What is the name of the current single/ep/album that you are pushing? Do you prefer people to buy it or stream? And why?
❖ My Single is Bury Me Smiling. I recorded that song and dropped it in December of ‘23. I’ve been working on my album since. I plan to drop the album on 11/3/24. The title of the album is “I Never Left”. I would prefer a balance of streaming and sales. The reason being, I can keep up with the streams on a daily basis. I can see if a song is still gaining traction and has elevated popularity. Whereas, the sales could be a nice shot in the arm for revenue purposes.
● With the industry changing so much, would you stay indie or sign to a label? Why and why not?
❖ It would depend on the requirements and stipulations from the label. I’d prefer remaining indie, but that means I’d need the backing of an entire village to push my image.
● Do you feel like the music industry has went down since the pandemic? Why or why not? Where you affected by the pandemic with music or everyday life?
❖ I don’t think music has changed “drastically” but there were definitely more pushes for electronic and online platform promotions. Concerts were halted and being outside in general took a hit.
● If you were given a chance to sit down and have a business dinner with a celebrity who would it be and why?
❖ I would have a sit down with Jim Carey. I think we have some similarities. I grew up watching him. He seems to use comedy to hide the inner difficulties. I’d like to know more about him.
● How do you balance everyday life tied into your music career?
❖ Obviously my day job is priority because I need to continue to grow and make a living how I know best. However, I’ve relearned in the past few years that you don’t need to give up on what you love to focus on struggles. I will always find a way for music to continue to shape my life.
● Tell me about your most memorable moment in your career?
❖ When I auditioned for the “Best from the West” competition, and was selected to perform on stage in Hollywood with 10 other artists. There were hundreds who auditioned. This competition was through the local radio station and promoted by JJ Howard. I was the best artist, at 18 years young. My downfall was using foul language which was against the rules. I was concerned that I would screw up the song if I used the words I was practicing… so Heat of the moment possibly wrote my history for me.
● What style of music do you prefer to make? Would you ever try a different lane?
❖ Rap music is where my skill set lies…
● Do you have a celebrity crush?
❖ Not at the moment… but Growing up it was Da Brat, Monica, and Aaliyah.
● Is there anyone who you would collab with right now?
❖ Young Noble from the Outlaws, Roddy Rich, Scarface.
● Who is the producer and engineer behind your music?
❖ When I first got started Luis Amezcua made all of my beats using various studios and engineers in California. We used to spend hours making beats from scratch. Fast forward to 2024, the beats are mostly purchased online. I’ve been using All Audio Recordings in Concord, NC. Very efficient and sound quality is great.
● What are you currently working on and what is next for you?
❖ I have a 13 song solo project coming. I’m including some old songs from the early 2000’s as well as some 2024 bangers! Simultaneously, I’m working on an album with my 2 Son’s called WEAPON X. This project will be legendary.
● When it comes to fashion, whats your dressing style ?
❖ Dickies shorts and a T-Shirt. Earrings and an LA FITTED!
● What is your creative process like and who inspired you to make music?
❖ Inspiration comes without warning sometimes. I used to write a few key lines that popped in my head on whatever I could find back in the day (toilet paper, napkins, etc). I need to be under the city lights for the most inspiration.
● If you could open up for one celebrity who would it be and why?
❖ Roddy Rich - His Mother and I were very close back in the day. He’s a great young man and my sons would get along well with him and his folks.
● Any funny stories or embarrassing moments you want to share with our readers?
❖ When I was younger, I was asked to be a part of an event as a performer. The catch was, I had to buy 10 tickets, but I could sell as many as I wanted. I could keep the money for all tickets sold after the 10 I paid for. I tried selling tickets but I didn’t really understand what I got into so I couldn’t explain it to people. So they didn’t buy any. When I went to the actual performance, I was expecting 500 - 700 people there. There were only 3 outside of a bartender, the dude at the door, and a girl that I invited. I was so embarrassed, that I didn’t even want to perform. Although I did, I was not very lively and not into it at all. If that were to happen today, I’d still give the performance of my life. Lesson Learned.. Small intimate settings are not only good practice opportunities, but you could definitely win over a few fans. Not to mention who could be lurking in the back…
● What would you be doing right now if it wasn’t for your music career?
❖ Same thing I’m doing now.. Just working and raising kids.
● What is one message you would give to your fans?
❖ Don’t ever put something you love to the side. Always stay connected and never let the life roller coaster impact you in a negative way. Take the lessons and build your brand.
